Love silver jewelry but wonder if gold might work better with your skin tone and hair color?  Love gold but think silver might look better with your salt and pepper hair?  Have red hair but hate gold with a passion? Take this little quiz to help you sort it out.

I was born in an era when gold was the most desirable jewelry.  Didn't matter what we wore it with, if we were lucky enough to have some, gold is what we wore.

Years passed and silver became popular.  We wore huge silver earrings and jangly necklaces with our bell bottoms.  Trends dictated the gold or silver choice.

Now, in 2016, almost anything goes in the fashion world.  Gold and silver are both popular.  When choosing jewelry, we are interested in knowing which metals compliment our complexion and hair color when creating our own style.

We often want to give jewelry as a gift.  Is there a metals choice that suits all skin tones and hair colors? According to this article in the Huffington Post, rose gold works for everyone.

Wearing jewelry is one of the pleasures of being a woman. Looking at glittering necklaces and earrings is fun, and matching up our jewelry choices with a new outfit is a rush.  Having some color direction saves us precious time in our search.  I hope you found that direction today.

Make-up, Skincare, and Other Things We Wish We Didn't Have to Think About

What Kind of Skin Care Products Work Best?

by Beverly Adams owner/designer Beverly's Jewelry Box

                         https://www.etsy.com/shop/beverlysjewelrybox?ref=hdr_shop_menu

I used to know, but that was before my 60's sneaked up on me and shot that all to pieces.  I had good skin and didn't have to worry too much.  As long as I used a mild cleanser and moisturizer, I was OK.

Now I prowl the aisles with the other baffled women, trying to look like I can read all the tiny print on the countless boxes of products that claim to "turn back the clock" or "get rid of those pesky wrinkles around your eyes".  They all promise miracles and they all cost a fortune.  And that's just the brands you find at Target.

I don't ever shop at the department stores.  I am afraid I will find something that works and I won't be able to do without it, so I will be eating generic peanut butter sandwiches for the rest of my aging life.

I am including a few links to some of the best skin care companies that I know of.  Their products are on par or better than the big box stores' products and have money-back guarantees.

Back in the day, I sold Shaklee skin care.  You know Shaklee, the direct selling company that is best known for their vitamins.
Their Infuselle Skin Care is fabulous!  My good friend, Deb Villarese, can hook you up if Shaklee is your choice. This brand is my favorite.

When my daughter, Kim Perry, decided to sell Mary Kay, I bought a sales kit, too.  I didn't make much money at it, but I had fun with all the pretty colored lipsticks and eye shadows.  The skin care is good, too.

Not everyone is into makeup like I am, but taking care of our skin is a great idea at any age.  As long as we don't expect a facelift in a bottle, we won't be disappointed.

After your skin is moisturized and your makeup looks great, take a peak at my Beverly's Jewelry Box website and treat yourself to a yummy necklace.  Remember, a little bit of bling is just the thing!

Hope you are having a glorious weekend.  Here in Wichita, it is 82 and sunny.  If only they would fix our pool heater...

Look Younger Today with Color

How to choose colors that flatter you.

by Beverly Adams, designer Beverly's Jewelry Box
by Beverly Adams owner/designer Beverly's Jewelry Box

Oh, yes, we all hold on to that little black dress.  You know the one...  We think it looks great in almost any social situation.  And it really does.

However, as women get older, we tend to have paler skin, and wearing black can create harsh contrast which emphasizes dark areas under our eyes and chin.  Adding a pop of color with a great necklace or scarf that goes with your hair and eye color lessens that washed out look.

Jamie Lee Curtis looks pretty good in plain black, but I think she looks even better with this purple scarf.

Neon colors make most of us look sallow.  Pastels can make you look washed out.  But most jewel colors give us a happy, radiant glow.

Here is how to pick colors that work for you:

Amethyst is a good choice for women who have brown hair with blonde highlights.  The blue tones in this rich purple add warm tones to your skin.  Other dark colors may make you look drab.

Purple bridesmaid dress with sheer cap sleeves:

Sapphire looks great with blue eyes.  A lovely necklace in shades of brilliant blue helps focus on one of your best features.

Women with light mocha to deep chocolate skin tones are stunning in deep garnet or ruby red.

Redheads who choose emerald green look amazing.

Pinks or citrine neutralize sallowness in fair Asian  skin tone.

Jewel tones add vibrancy to silver haired women.  Try emerald, sapphire, and ruby.

A cool coral is one of the few colors that compliment most skin tones.

Bring life to any skin tone with a necklace in your best color.

Why Buy Quality Well-Made Jewelry

Tips to remember when buying jewelry.

By Beverly Adams of Beverly's Jewelry Box
https://www.etsy.com/shop/beverlysjewelrybox?ref=hdr_shop_menu

1.  Avoid any cutesy shapes, especially in pastel or bright colors.  Animal pendants and little charm bracelets look childish and rarely look expensive.

2.  Don't spend money on a necklace made from random beads on a piece of string that looks like you made it at home.  Look for expertly designed beaded necklaces made of quality faux pearls and crystals, not necklaces made of plastic.

3.  Look for even, crisp enamel work where the enamel meets the metal.

4.  Choose jewelry that has weight appropriate to the style.  A large pendant that is super light weight looks cheap when it is flopping around like it's made of aluminum foil.  Heavier metals and stones feel more expensive and look better, too.  Choose jewelry made with sturdy clasps and toggles that are made to last

5.  Stay away from gem stones that look cheap.  Vintage rhinestone necklaces have a lovely nostalgic feel, but take care to choose pieces that are in good condition.

6.  Avoid a statement necklace that says the wrong things.  Not all statement necklaces are created equal.  Jazzing up an outfit with a huge, garish bib necklace is popular, but not stylish or sophisticated.  Choose instead a quality necklace with a lovely pendant that you can wear for years, after the latest fad is over.

Wearing beautiful jewelry is part of your total look and how you look is the first glimpse of who you are.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

Beautiful Dresses for that Special Wedding Day.

by Beverly Adams of Beverly's Jewelry Box

Spring is in the air and weddings are happening everywhere.  If you are the lucky
mother of a beautiful bride or a dashing groom, here are some lovely ideas to
inspire you.  I found many dresses shown in different shades of gray and not
too many in cream or beige.  Rules are not as strict on the color of your dress,
so a neutral or muted pastel should do the trick.

All of these dresses are flattering to almost any figure.  I would add a lovely
necklace to finish off the look.
If you have a vintage brooch, using it to make a necklace and then giving it to
the bride is a unique idea.  If you don't have a favorite keepsake brooch,
one of my Vintage/Fusion pieces would do nicely.  If you have a pin, I can
design a necklace for you.Social Occasions by Mon Cheri | Mother of the Bride Dress:

How to Save Time, Fuel, Energy, & More

My Little Secret... I Shop Online

by Beverly Adams of Beverly's Jewelry Box

Time is our most precious commodity.  Clever ways to eliminate wasted time are found by using our window to the world: Our computer.  See if any of these how-to's speak to you.

• Save Time – Have a list of items that you want to buy? You and Paypal are just a few clicks away from making your purchases and moving on to other important tasks, which saves you time.

• Save Fuel -   No matter if fuel prices have gone up or down, they do not affect your shopping errands. With online shopping there is no need for vehicles, so no purchase of fuel necessary.

• Save Energy –  Who wants to waste precious energy going from one store to another after working all day, or are not feeling up to par.  And finding out that the store is out of the super rich vanilla cherry body lotion that you wanted is incredibly frustrating.  In online shopping, you know right away if the lotion is available.

• Comparison of Prices – Price comparison via search engine allows you to easily price check and compare, website to website.  You have the freedom to determine which online store offers the best price for your purchase.

• 24/7 Availability – Online stores are open 24/7, 365 days a year. I have driven from one side of Wichita to the other, wasting 2 hours, to check two bead stores trying to find Light Topaz Swarovski crystals.  Now I order online, whenever the notion strikes me, in my snuggly robe and jammies.

to buy this necklace click here

• Hate Waiting in Lines – How many times have you wished you could walk out of the store after waiting in a slow moving line, but had to stay and get your shopping done.  I have been amazed at how quickly I can accomplish hours of shopping in a few minutes online.  And using Paypal eliminates having your credit or debit card compromised at the checkout.

• Total Shopping Privacy – I remember standing in the checkout line at Target with a bra among my purchases.  There was a man in the line behind me no doubt wishing he was in another line as well.

Saving time, money, and energy makes me happy.

Have a super Tuesday!

Antique, Mid-Century, Retro, Vintage

What Do They Mean?

by Beverly Adams owner/designer Beverly's Jewelry Box

When I decided to include vintage brooches in my jewelry process, I had a vague idea of what vintage meant.  I knew that the pieces were old, but not how old or if they had value.  Then the other terms crept in - mid-century, retro, antique!  Confusion reigned.

After some Google searching, the fog lifted and all became clear.

Vintage jewelry represents the style of an era.  A mid-century vintage brooch should have the features common to jewelry made in the middle of the twentieth century.

Jewelry is vintage when it is old enough that it has come back into style again.  Fashion deems this happen every 20 or 25 years.  Jewelry made between 1920 and 1980 would be considered vintage.

Jewelry is defined as antique when it is about 100 years old.

Retro means relating to styles of the past, fashionably nostalgic, or old fashioned.

My jewelry includes vintage mid-century pieces as well as retro pieces that mimic styles from the past.

That's all I have for tonight.  Have a super Monday and come back and see me.

Great Grandma's Jewelry

Great Grandma's Jewelry

by Beverly Adams, designer Beverly's Jewelry Box
https://www.etsy.com/shop/beverlysjewelrybox?ref=hdr_shop_menu

I was born on my Grandma Tyler's birthday.  Maybe that's why I inherited her love of costume jewelry.  My fondest childhood memory is opening her dresser drawers full of 1940's and 50's rhinestone necklaces, earrings, brooches, and bracelets.  I was allowed to play with them whenever I wanted to as long as I put everything back exactly as I found it.  I wish I had all of her lovely trinkets today.  But, like many mementos, they have gone by the wayside.

Some of my friends have received from their mothers or aunties vintage jewelry that once was worn by their grandmothers.  The pieces have sentimental meaning, but what do you do with them besides take them out and look at them and then put them away again.

My solution to making use of precious mid-century brooches, some of which were designed by famous jewelry designers of the 40's, 50's, and 60's, is to use them in my necklace creations.  But, not everyone makes jewelry.

For all of you DIY folks, the photos below give you two ideas of how you can make use of these keepsakes.  I especially like the initial on the mirror.  If you make one of these using jewelry, please let me know.  And, if you like, I can share a photo of it in this blog.

She Finds A Box Of Old Jewelry In Her Closet. What She Does With Its Contents? BRILLIANT!:

If you have a particular brooch that you would like me to make into a necklace for you, please let me know and I will take a look at it.  Some of them work for a pendant and some don't.  If the brooch will work, I will then give you a quote for the necklace.

That's all for tonight.  Come back and see me.
